Laser Tattoo Aftercare
The post-appointment inner monologue is so real
Day 1
OMG! I’m so glad I did it. I’m so brave! It feels a little hot and swollen, but otherwise it’s not bad.
Day 2-5
ON NO! It’s so swollen, sore, blistered and bruised. Should I be concerned? Is this normal? Should I go to the doc?
Day 7-14
WTF!Ewwwwwwww - It’s healing, but it’s so itchy and flakey.
Day 15-21
WTF!! My tattoo is still there!! Also why is it still itchy?
Day 22-30
YAY!! My tattoo is healed and is starting to fade out slowly. I can see the ink disappearing.
3 Months Later
HELL YEAH! It’s faded so much over time. I’m ready to do it all again.

Blisters
Don’t be alarmed. Blisters are soft little pillows of sterile fluid protecting the underlying skin. They are your body’s very own Band-Aid. Indicating that your immune system is kicking ass. A blister should only ever be punctured if you feel it is restricting your circulation. Blisters can be covered with a non-stick wrap. Lazer Erazer will have already done this. Keep the sterile water-resistant bandages on for 3-5 days to avoid further injury. This is the lazy legends aftercare. When wounds become infected, it isn’t your body doing anything wrong; it’s the outside world coming in. If your bandage falls off, don’t stress. Either re-wrap it with something from the chemist or, for a more cost-effective alternative, use cling wrap. Keep it covered until the blister scabs over.
What's actually happening
Tattoo ink inhabits the second layer of skin known as the ‘dermis’. Because the laser penetrates to this deeper layer, a superficial skinburn is formed, similar to a heavy sunburn. Some patients may experience bruising, swelling or blistering. This can develop within 8-72 hours and may last 1-2 weeks.

Tips and tricks
-
ICE, ice baby - Apply an ice pack, or old-fashioned frozen peas (covered in an absorbent towel) for 10 mins, then removefor 10 mins. Repeat for 4-8 hours.
-
Once the bandage is off, clean the area daily with a pH-balanced soap/antibacterial soap in cool, low-water pressure.
-
Apply your favourite aftercare cream. Either an aloe vera, tea-tree blend or a coconut oil/vitamin E cream. Vitamin Ecapsules (that you ingest) broken onto the area are good for skin cell regeneration.
-
Water is your bff - Drink as much h20 as possible to avoid dehydration. If you want to have a shandy or two, go for it. Just make sure your body is hydrated, as alcohol is a dehydrating agent.
-
Don’t smoke! - Funnily enough, you’ll get better results if you don’t put toxins in your bloodstream.
-
Avoid excessive heat for 48 hours; this includes hot baths/showers, saunas, (watching cops), and no sun exposure for 2 weeks. Exercise is generally safe - Extra fries are safer. AVOID getting sweat orother bodily fluids on the area for 48 hours.
-
Avoid oils and perfumes which can cause irritation. Make sure your clothing and bed linen are clean. Avoid hot tubs and pool parties,or any form of soaking in chlorine/contained bodies of water. Wait until the area is completely scabbed over.
-
It’s common to develop an itching sensation - This is a sign of healing. Do not pick or scratch; scarring will occur.
Fractional Aftercare

What to do after Frac
You did it! You’ve found yourself on the other side of Fractional Laser, and we are so proud of you! You already know how important removing your tattoo is to us.
The aftermath of laser can feel frac-ing scary, so setting you up for aftercare at home is equally important.
Steps to follow for healing
Step 1
Keep the area covered with our fancy bandage for 24-48 hours.
As post-fractional wounds are a graze and bleeding is extremely common.
The wrap might look a little bloody but don’t fret, these are your own bodily fluids.
Step 2
Once you remove the wrap, feel free to inspect how badass your new wound looks. Give it a gentle clean with a pH-balanced wash (no soap or fragrance *owie*).
Step 3
Pat the area dry with paper towel and start applying a thin layer of antiseptic cream lotion. Even good ol’ Vaseline can help keep the skin hydrated and happy.
Every zapper and every tattoo is different; there’s no hard and fast rule for how long you should lotion up fractional wounds! Generally, 3-5 days is plenty. You can then switch out to a Vitamin E oil over the area to help regenerate your happy skin cells.

Avoid while healing
-
Picking & scratching!! (This can lead to scarring)
-
Direct sun exposure for 2-4 weeks
-
Spas, saunas & chlorinated water
-
Exfoliants and active ingredients in your skincare routine
-
Products containing soap or fragrance
Tips and tricks
-
If water is entering your wrap before it’s time to remove it, please remove the bandage. Trapped water is not a happy sign of healing. Feel free to rewrap with cling wrap for more cost-effective care, but it is not always necessary!
-
Derma rolling!! This is going to assist your fade so much at home
-
Water is your best friend, every day and especially while healing from laser wounds
-
Anti-inflammatory & anti-histamine medications can help reduce your swelling
-
Apply an ice pack to the area; frozen peas work well too!
-
Wear SPF once the area is healed, especially on those sensitive skin areas like your face, neck, chest & hands.

Cosmetic Aftercare

What to expect
Every zapper is individual and special in their own immune response – if you don’t experience an intense response akin to traditional tattoo removal, please rest assured this is not an indication of a failed treatment. The healing time on the face and head is faster than anywhere else on the body; this is due to increased blood flow to the area. Yay! This means if you do require future sessions on your tattoo, we can safely do this in 6 weeks.
Reactions that you might experience while healing include but are not limited to: swelling, redness, dark under-eye circles (when treating cosmetic eyebrows), scabs, itchiness, changes to the colour of tattoo pigment & hair follicles, post-treatment fatigue & lethargy.
What you do for the first two days post cosmetic tattoo removal dictates how well your body will bounce back.
Tips and tricks

-
You can take anti-inflammatory medication to settle any signs of swelling.

-
Wait until the scabs have disappeared before you conceal them with makeup or tint any of the treated areas.

Derma Rolling

What is Derma Rolling?
Derma rolling encourages blood flow and circulation to the area. This is exactly what your tattoo needs to get the best fade and lighten possible.
How to Derma Roll
Follow these steps 6 weeks after your treatment.
Step 1
Clean and cleanse your skin with warm water or a wet wipe. This opens pores and means your skin is more absorbent and accepting of the product (After a shower is a great time to get rolling).
Step 2
Apply the derma roller to the area and dry roll (No product) forwards, backwards, and side to side. How much time you should spend rolling depends on the size of your tattoo. For small tattoos, 1- 2 minutes will do the trick. Apply with a firm yet gentle pressure; be soft yet vigorous.
Step 3
Grab your favourite oil, either vitamin A, vitamin E or bio oil. Roll it into the rolled area.
Step 4
Clean your roller head with an alcohol spray immediately after your roll, then wash with warm water. If your roller is not clean, it can infect and irritate your skin, so this step is vital.
Step 5
For best results, use 2 - 3 times a week. Keep using it up until you come in for your next tattoo removal treatment.
